Somewhere Like Home

Just like I do at home on a place called Earth. I can do the same thing I do everyday just the same such as breath, eat, and be able to go outside. The only change I would like is somewhere that is always nice and sunny, no cold whether. I can go outside in a t shirt and not be cold. I can go for walks all year round and smell the flowers that are blossomed. I can enjoy taking photos of the nice sunshine and not be cold. No more shoveling the drive way. My fiance and I can enjoy our self's outside and go for a dip in the pool and sun bath. I would like to take a trip up to see all the stars and plants that lie in the sky, to be able to experience it. I would be able to be happy with not being miserable from the cold whether. I could go to bed knowing when I woke up it was going to be nice outside.

 

If I Close My Eyes . . .

A glimpse of a world that intrigues me.  A slice of time; years apart, in a parallel world.  Flags flying high in the cool morning air as the city starts to come alive.  I pull my wrap around me a little tighter for warmth as I find my way through the winding streets.  This time of day is my favorite.  The smell of breakfast cooking over open flame, floats through the air.    The sun, peeking its head over roof tops as the early risers make their way to the market place to sell and buy their wares.  I close my eyes for a moment to take in the sounds around me. A dog barks in the distance, signaling a few others that answer his call.  The sound of wooden wagon wheels grinding dirt between them and cobblestones, and a mule plodding along leading the wagon; hooves striking the same cobbles with a rhythm all their own.  Chickens rustle and cluck in a pen not far off and two men bickering over whose sward would be better in battle. 

I continue my morning walk and find my way to a quiet place where I could take in the view for hours.  The beauty of this land is amazing. The White Tower rises boldly into the sky behind me.  I am in my home of Minas Tirith in the Realm of Gondor.  The land where battles are well fought and won by conquering knights and Kings, in a time of bravery and honor.  This land of the King in a time of Hobbits, Dwarfs, Elves and Men . . . taken from the great imagination of Tolkien.  If I were able to play with time and parallel worlds, that is where you would find me.

A Place Called Home

Just like planet Earth, I would be able to breathe, swim, and eat without being suffocated from the change in atmospheric pressure. I would be able to smell the sweet fragrance drifting off from the flowers while also feeling the wind blow through my hair. I would encounter life as though I was living on Earth. I would walk outside of my house and tread lightly on the graveled pathway. My dog would be beside me barking at the bumblebees. If a bumblebee gets to close, he will open his mouth and catch it. As we continue to walk, my dog and I would meet up with friends and family to go on a hot air balloon ride, just to see the other galaxies, planets, and stars around us. Through the use of technology and science, I would be able to fly high in the sky. Flying would minimize the exposure of gases in the atmosphere to keep the air clean and breathable. At night the scenery would be captivating and beautiful to the human eye. Wishes would be created as shooting stars fly above our heads. The temperature would be warm, making it comfortable to do activities with or without a jacket. As my dog and I enter the house, we take off our shoes and talk to mom on a screen telling her about our day (screen takes place of cell phones). I grab food from the forever-giving refrigerator and kiss my fiance goodnight. Just like planet Earth, my life would be the same. I would be happy for what I have, happy for what I will have, and happy for what the future will bring. 

Space travel will it continue against the odds?

The episode of The Universe I have chosen to write about is Space Travel.  I agree that it seems like a long time since there has been anything big done to promote space travel in the last 30 years due to the high cost.  However, it is hard for me to relate or believe in the idea of a space elevator.  This elevator is supposed to be an efficient way to defy gravity and send supplies and travelers into space.  It seems like it would be a very hard thing to figure out how to build.

If and when the space elevator is built, the space traveler must then contend with things such as glass, debris, meteors, and radiation effects from the sun.  The effects of heavy iron particles are very dangerous too.  So say you defy the odds and survive the beginning portion of your space journey, then you  have to continue to thrive while you are there.  The loss of gravity on you body has several negative effects.  Some examples include motion sickness, muscle atrophy ( especially in the legs ), slowing of the digestive tract, and a decrease in the immune system.  Along  with these examples, bacteria can grow and mutate due to the radiation.  The longer the trip the more complicated things become.

The travelers must pack enough food and supplies with them or figure out a way to make the supplies needed and we are not really at that point in discovery yet.  With space travel if there is engine failure and you can't fix it you die.  So at this point it seems there are many odds against us.  First we must figure a less expensive way to travel into space and once we get there, figure out a way to sustain ourselves for the remainder of the trip. Without sounding negative all of this  makes the idea of colonizing space difficult to believe it will ever happen.

 

Mars one Day

Please imagine, it is sunny, 75 degree weather, you are on a beach chair over looking a beautiful blue ocean.   You are in a space suit drinking margaritas with your friends.   You are on a beach in the planet mars.  This is the idea you get from watching an episode of the Universe colonizing space.
I feel as in our lifetime no one will be able to live on Mars.   I feel this way because no one has ever landed in Mars because they would be crushed.  The closets to land on Mars was a space robot.  There is said to be water on Mars, but there is no proof of this.   It sounds like a good idea until you really start understanding the facts.  Mars gets extremely cold and warm all in one day.   How could we begin to even imagine the idea of being on a beach having a good time in conditions like that?
Mars is said to be volcanically active but no one has certain of these claims.  I do not think that we have the technology to make this happen within our lifetime.  However, we can dream and imagine on how this would be.   If we had our way, considering in years to come the earth population will be multiplied, it would be nice to be able to have other forms of life on other planets.   Wouldn't it be nice to put someone on a ship for a vacation on another planet?    Or even a better analysis would be to take all the criminals and send them to another planet.   Not a joyful, beach atmosphere, however a criminal system on Mars.   I do not believe any of this will every become a reality, but it is always nice to dream.

Earth v2.0

Earth is revolving in orbit at such an ideal distance from the sun, with ideal gravitational pull, and with all of the resources we need. Earth is fine the way it is! For those reasons, I would set up a parallel galaxy that has the same structure as ours. The real changes would need to occur within our planet - with ourselves. First, we need to address our energy expenditure. When we consider how quickly we are approaching the end of our finite natural energy sources, a new planet would need to contain more fuel. Once we've depleted our natural resources, we're screwed. Scientific research may not be able to keep up with the rate at which we drain oil wells and harvest natural gas. More fuel and efficient harvesting methods would set up humankind for sustainable success.

Another cool idea would be to have more humans on a planet that is in close proximity to ours. What if we had an interplanetary exchange system with a speedy way to travel between the two? We could work together to harvest resources from two planets rather than just one. Or, we could use one planet for harvesting resources and the other for living. These imaginary scenarios would be interesting and beneficial for us; however, I do not see any possibility of them happening.

Not Anytime Soon

The most irritating thing to me that I found while watching The Universe was the commercials. I could have done without them. Other than that, I think the discussion about getting to Mars was a bit crazy. Right now it could take four to six months to get to Mars. If we want to go there we need  to find a quicker way. According to the video, we would have to find a way to travel faster than the speed of light to get there in any reasonable amount of time. How is this possible? I realize that scientist have accomplished so much but to me, this seems to be an unrealistic expectation. Funding for this project and any research for that matter is difficult to obtain. I am not sure about you, but I have a hard time in a flight across the United States. I can't imagine being contained in a spacecraft for months at a time. I doubt we'll see travel to Mars anytime soon. Since there is nothing there yet why would anyone want to go? Humans are so accustomed to life on earth. Probably there would be major mental health issues for people while they adjust to such a different environment. Travel to Mars, maybe someday but not anytime soon.
