A New Addiction

When I was a kid, I was shown all of the star wars films and I never really enjoyed them. I think as a child, I didn’t really understand a lot of the concepts of the films to actually enjoy them – there were too many new terms to think about! Watching A New Hope as an adult has given me a more mature perspective on the film; I went into it with an open mind and came out with a changed opinion. A New Hope starts off with the capture of Princess Leia’s ship by Darth Vader and his crew, who is searching for the secret documents of this secret mission that Princess Leia and her crew is on. After searching and finding nothing, Princess Leia was taken hostage by Darth Vader and his companions. R2D2, Princess Leia’s robot mate, had made it off of the ship and decided that it was his job to get help for Princess Leia. On his way, he is captured and sold to Owen Lars. Luke Skywalker, a relative to Lars, noticed a message that was left for Princess Leia on R2D2 memory. Since the message was addressed to Obi Wan Kenobi, Luke asked his uncle if he knew him, in which Luke found out that it was his old father. In an attempt to find R2D2 who disappeared over night (in search of Kenobi), Luke set out on an adventure. The story line of this movie is great, in my opinion. For a movie that hit theaters in the 70’s, I really did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did. I was reluctant to get into the star wars franchise, but I’m going to have to find the other 5 movies and have a weekend of movie watching!

  1. I'm glad I am not the only one who returned to the series to learn a lot more than when I did as a child. I think the story is really neat and futuristic for its time. I assure you, you will not regret finishing the series.
