I haven’t watched Star Wars since I was a kid, but now
watching it I understand the meaning of may the force be with you. This movie
is famous for this line, that it even has its own holiday on the 4th
of May. I think the whole point of this movie is for Luke to learn the meaning
of the force and what it is and what it can do. Especially that it could help
him, and that everything is connected through the force. Han Solo didn’t
believe it, but by the end he seemed to by saying the phrase to Luke. The force
isn’t explained too much in detail, only that it is with him and that one must
feel it.
Luke couldn’t see what he was hitting twice in this movie.
The first time being with a sphere and he couldn’t see because he had a helmet
on. I think this is a foreshadow to when he has to destroy the planet that was
created, because he took away the screen that showed him where to aim. The
sphere was like a smaller version of the ‘planet’, and Luke uses the force in
both scenes to guide him.
It also seems like the force has to deal with deaths of the
greats, because when Obi-Wan Kenobi died, he spoke to Luke in his thoughts.
Darth Vader also felt the presence of I think Obi-Wan Kenobi or maybe just a
force different than his. Either way, I think it is interesting how the force was
talked about and shown through the film and how it is slowly starting to
unravel its meaning.
I too haven't seen this Star Wars movie since I was a kid. After watching it while being a little bit older, I was able to pick up on things I never did as a kid. Back then I watched for the action with the Light Saber duals and the space ship battles. But now I grasp the whole story line and can appreciate how much actually went into these movies.
