Observations from Star Wars

In the movie Star Wars A New Hope from the very beginning of the movie, one theme that come to mind for me is the importance of family and relationships.  This is shown by Luke and his close relationship with his aunt and uncle.  Luke shows his loyalty to his uncle to stay with him another year to help him.  Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke have an instant connection when they meet as he heals Luke.  There is even a connection between a C-3PO and R2-D2.  Early in the film Luke is devastated by the tragic loss of his aunt and uncle and joins forces with Obi-Wan - Kenobi.  From Luke's first glace of the princess, it is easy to tell there is an immediate connection to her.

In observing Luke's home in the desert it reminded me of how the colony would look like on Mars from the episode of the Universe.  It seems to be set up similar with the dome shaped buildings in a circular layout with some of it being underground.  One may think this is for protection of the elements and sand storms.  I noticed the humans did not need to wear protective space suits on any of the planets they  traveled to.  The mode of transportation Luke used travel while living with his aunt and uncle is like I would have pictured it to be but again he didn't need to wear any protective clothing when using it.

It is interesting to think of what is meant by "the force".  There is the physical portion of it as well as the emotional one.  With practice Luke is able to use this to his advantage especially on those who are" weak minded" just as Obi-Wan-Kenobi taught him.

Space travel was very advanced and humans could travel from planet to planet at the drop of a hat whereas a trip to the moon or Mars takes years of planning in reality.

  1. I think you did an excellent job in your blog post! I like how you broke it into paragraphs which made it easier to read. You described the relationship part well and that is actually something that I didn't really look at while watching the movie. I looked more at the good vs. evil like some others in the class did. I like your take on it though. You saw something that some people did not, or maybe they did but chose to write about the good vs. evil instead. Nevertheless, I think that your outlook on it was unique and refreshing and I think you did a good job!
