I have enjoyed reading the book "Quiet" and look forward to finishing it. I myself was raised and still live in a small town such as Dale from the book did. I consider myself as at times having both an extrovert and introvert personality. I come from a large family and am the youngest of six children. There are seven years between myself and the next sibling. Growing up for me was about living in a busy household with a great deal of interaction between myself, my older siblings, and my parents. Then as my siblings left for college and started their own lives I enjoyed the quiet time. I now work as an RN in a busy medical practice with a large staff. I enjoy working with so many people with a variety of personalities but also enjoy the one on one time I have as I care for my patients.
I would say I learn well in a small classroom setting where I feel comfortable asking questions. However, I have forced myself to adapt to learning with on line classes which is a bit out of my comfort zone. I also enjoy working at my own pace with reading self help books and tapes rather than attending large seminars or conferences. I have had a fear of public speaking in the past but have found some success as long as I am prepared and have adequate knowledge of the subject.
So, I have found myself at times being an extrovert and sometimes being an introvert depending on the situation. Therefore, being adaptable.
Something I found of interest while reading our book was when it made reference to what Universities and colleges admissions were looking for in perspective students. The trend in the 1940's was that Universities and colleges leaned toward choosing students with good grades, involved in plenty of extracurricular activities, and well rounded. With two boys of my own who are college age, I found this to still be true.
