Bubbles in Beer

The episode of The Universe that I selected was “God and the Universe.”  In this episode, scientists discuss the universe and the search for God.  They come to the conclusion that there is no Divine Creator.  There is a scientific or mathematical reason behind the creation of the Universe, Earth, and all life that inhabits our planet including human beings.  We are simply the result of stars exploding.  The scientists claim that human beings are thinking, feeling, conscious beings because of the Law of Statistics and the way matter grouped together.  The scientists likened human beings to bubbles in a mug of beer.
I am not a brilliant physicist.  I am a simple human being.  But, I am more than a clump of matter.  I don’t believe that our human ability to think, feel emotion, make choices, communicate with high level language, laugh and cry is the result of some random force of nature.  I believe that we as human beings have a soul and each of us is a unique creation created by God and deserving of respect.  We are more than bubbles in a mug of beer.

I find the theories of the scientists to be sad.  It seems that in their quest to answer the eternal questions of why we are here and who created us, they rely solely on what they can prove scientifically.  In their view, our short life spans are all that there is.  We exist and then we don’t.  The episode ends with the scientific theory of Multiple Universes.  This theory can’t be tested or proven but they believe it.  I wonder, then, why they have such a hard time believing in God?

  1. I’m going to start by saying that I love your post. You are so right, and I agree with you completely! Scientists cannot prove the Multiple Universe theory, but they believe but God is nothing more than a sorry excuse for answers. Um, no. I’m a Chemistry Major, a scientist, but I believe that neither God nor the Universe can exist without each other. I don’t think the Big Bang just happened. I don’t think that we just evolved without some kind of divine intervention. It’s why I’m a Chemistry person and not an Earth Science or a Physics person. Chemistry just accepts things without trying to answer those hard questions. I believe in the Math and Science, but I think there’s something more.

  2. I usually think more in a scientific or realist way because I like to see how things happened and see how they would make sense but throughout this series my views have changed on this aspect. No other planet that we have found is like Earth and no other planet has anything similar to human beings or living organisms in general. It's not luck that there's just a beautiful planet with all the resources we could need with an environment that is adaptable for us. I do not believe we are anything like bubbles in a mug of beer nor do I believe we are the result of stars exploding.

  3. I respectfully disagree with you in the aspect of there being a "God" for the reason of life on Earth. I feel that it is crazy to believe that there is an invisible person that can create matter and life out of nothing. Did he create all the other universes for no reason? I think people believe in God because they need a simple quick and easy reason why they are here on Earth. Science is everywhere and that's why I believe in modern theories. I think it will be funny once people find out there is no heaven.
