The Universe As We Know It

Merriam Webster Dictionary defines the word “Universe” as “All of space and everything in it including stars, planets, galaxies, etc.” Our Earth and our Solar System are a part of the Milky Way Galaxy which consists of billions of planets and stars. When I was younger I used to want to be an astronaut until I found out that I am terrified of heights and that some astronauts die (I am not one for the risky jobs). I think it is amazing though to think of all the work and planning that goes into preparing for these launches. They have this new thing where you can pay millions of dollars to go to Mars. The thing with this though is it is a one way trip. I don't think I would be able to do this due to the fact that I think it would be scary to never be able to return to Earth and also due to the fact that I am a poor college student. I heard on the radio this one guy talking about how he bought a ticket but only for himself. His wife was O.K with it, the only thing he said would keep him from going is if his kids don't want him to. The Universe is so vast we don't even know a quarter of what is out there. I live in the middle of nowhere so I like to go out on my deck at night when it's warm out and a clear sky and look at the stars. It is absolutely beautiful, and to think that they are all so far away is amazing. Some nights when it's really clear they look like diamonds in the sky. With the Universe being so vast it really makes you wonder what all is out there that we haven't even discovered yet, and may never discover.
