Mars, Where Art Thou?

To even be able to live on another planet is a mind-blowing thought. When first learning about the planets of our solar system, we always discover the names and the locations of these planets. "First comes Mercury: the closest to the sun, second is Venus: the woman planet, third is Earth: where humans like to roam, fourth is Mars: the red planet, fifth is Jupiter: the big soul, the sixth planet is Saturn: where rings are a plenty, seventh planet is Uranus: the one people pronounce wrong, the eighth planet is Neptune: the one next to Pluto, and lastly Pluto: the coldest planet that once existed in the books." Earth is a beautiful planet where every living creature/thing is capable of breathing freely. Earth itself has existed for about 4.54 billion years and it scares society that one day humans may no longer exist, just like the dinosaurs. I think it is important to realize that there is a possibility for life to be placed somewhere else, somewhere different.
According to the documentary called Living in Space, Mars (fourth planet from the sun) is a possible candidate for future living quarters when Earth can no longer contain life. It has some characteristics similar to Earth but also many differences that make it unique. It is amazing to identify that Mars could one day be colonized. From listening to the video, human beings would live in domes. Inside the domes would be the shelters (homes) where human beings would eat and sleep. The new home environment may make individuals feel claustrophobic because the rooms themselves are closed in. The atmosphere outside the domes is dangerous to life. If humans were to walk outside with no protective suits (gear) and exposed for too long, their bodies would encounter serious fatal effects. Even just being outside for a little bit will cause changes to skin and nails.
As science progressively advances, the possibilities are endless. We have scientists right now who are working on missions to determine how life would be managed on Mars. Who knows how many years Earth has before it encounters another traumatic event that destroys all humankind. All we know is that life may be possible on another planet, and someday, that too will be in our school books.

  1. I too wrote about this episode! I absolutely love what you have written and I agree on several aspects! It kind of scares me to contemplate the fact that one day, life as we know it could end. That we would be forced to find life on another planet such as mars. It is almost unfathomable in a way, but yet intriguing. I loved your comment regarding the history books!

  2. I enjoyed reading your post. Isn't it amazing, almost too much to wrap your mind around; the thought of living on another planet. I would certainly be the one that is claustrophobic in the sheltered environment they explained, not to mention just getting there to begin with. Nice and entertaining trip through the solar system, I enjoyed that very much!

  3. Good read, and great points. It truly is a mind-blowing thought to be able to one day live on another planet. However, at this point in time, I do not think all of the risks involved would make these trips worth the time and costs.
