Dating Online: The future or a complete disaster?
Social Networks and the internet has certainly affected intimacy in both good and bad ways. In good ways it has brought people together who before would not have been able to interact. I have a personal story to attest to this. About 10 months ago, I joined this really stupid dating site called tinder. I honestly just did it for a joke and to meet new people. But, 2 months later this really cute guy messaged me through this dating site. We talked for a little while and we found out a lot of things about each other. He came to visit me in PA a little while later since he lives in NH. He stayed for about a week in PA and we got to know each other even more. He asked me out the night before he left to go home and we kept in touch through Facebook, texting, FaceTime, and phone calls. It was very interesting trying to keep up a relationship through only internet contact and very little amount of face-to-face contact. However, it worked for a very long time. The intimacy of the relationship was not cut short by the fact that our contact was mostly through internet and social network. We had a very good relationship and even though it was long distance and difficult to sort our schedules to find time to be able to FaceTime and talk on the phone, it was a great relationship.

That is great that you were able to use social networking for the better. It is always refreshing to hear that the internet is doing good and not ruining people's lives. I also give you kudos for having the courage to meet this guy in real life for the first time. What made you decide to use tinder instead of other popular dating sites? Is there something better on tinder than the other dating sites? Did your friends introduce you to tinder or did you find it on your own? Sorry for all the questions, but I use OKCupid for my dating site, and I'm not all that impressed with it. I am interested in seeing the differences between sites that makes them so successful.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that you were able to use technology in a good way. I will give you a lot of credit for being brave enough to try that. How did you feel when you first started talking on that site? Were you nervous? I will say I have never used a dating site.
