The medium is the Metaphor

We are going to talk about the chapter titled The Medium Is the Metaphor .The United States now is made up of multiple different cities that can radiate the American spirt. Back in the late eighteen hundreds early and the nineteen hundreds, there was little transportation restricting the movement of people. Now you can hop in a car and travel from East coast to West coast.  At different times in our history, different cities have been the focal point of a radiating American spirit. Boston was the center of a political radicalism in the late eighteenth century  that ignited a shot heard round the world. This made everyone come together to support a good cause. In the mid-nineteenth century , New York become the symbol for immigrants all around the world. New York became the melting –pot for the United States. Just about all of us have family relation that had come through Ellis Island.   Than in the early twentieth century arose the City if Chicago. The city of big shoulders and heavy winds, came to the symbolize the industrial energy and dynamism of America.  Chicago, stands as a reminder of the time when America was railroads, cattle, steel mills and entrepreneurial adventures. Now Chicago is a city that is in debt a couple million dollars and the Steel mills and railroads are a dying entity. Now you take a journey to 2015 and Las Vegas is a metaphor for our national character. You see pictures of slot machines and chorus girls. That is now the picture that is seen throughout the United States. Most large cities in the United States are seen as entertainment, because that’s where the money is.

  1. I like how you incorporated several different cities and times into your response. These examples show how the US is made up of cities that "radiate the American spirit." I think the list of these cities could go on.
