Medium is a Metaphor

“If there is a statue of a hog butcher somewhere in Chicago, then it stands as a reminder of the time when America was railroads, cattle, steel mills and entrepreneurial adventures” (31) That statement right there proves how much America has changed. Transportation has definitely changed. We can get to places no longer by horse and buggy or trains but by cars, planes, subways etc.. Yes New York is the city of immigrants coming to Ellis Island, Las Vegas  in now the metaphor of national character and is just looked at as the fun city. It has slot machines, lots of site seeing and is know as the "sin city" that's why you get the saying what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.  All these cities mentioned in the book tell something about them and America. The list of cities could go on.  Just to read this chapter and looking back on America then to now, it's amazing how everything has changed and technology has become the center of America.

  1. Really liked what you had to say here. I think there is a lot that has changed over the years as we have developed. I think its fascinating to look at how much certain well known areas have really changed for better or worse like New York or Detroit. Very good job in deed.
