If Only They Could Hear Me.

Why do I have the feeling I don't fit in at Hogwarts? I try not to intrude on conversations I know I'm not a part of. I always misplace my toad and forget things I know I should remember. Why do I pretend to be something I'm not and expect others to like me for who I am? Is it because I am a tattletale or is it because I have difficulty balancing on my own two feet? Neville Longbottom has low self-esteem. He is kind but shows very little confidence in himself. He wants to be included in groups without coming off as annoying or a nuisance. Because of his low self-esteem, Neville has a difficult time standing up to others, and therefore, struggles to defend himself  when faced with a predicament. To some, low self-esteem is a weakness, but Neville uses that weakness as a learning process to test his knowledge against others. Neville Longbottom transforms his weakness into a strength, impacting his character in a positive way.

  1. You point out very good statements to back up on why Neville feels the way he does. It was good you took a direct quote right out of the novel to back up your argument. I try not to intrude on conversations I know I'm not a part of. I always misplace my toad and forget things I know I should remember. Why do I pretend to be something I'm not and expect others to like me for who I am? Is it because I am a tattletale or is it because I have difficulty balancing on my own two feet? That was just restated the direct quote . I think it would have been good to show the reader how maybe Neville had improved on his confidence problem throughout the novel if he ever did. I believe you were short on how long it had to be, just don’t want to see you lose points.

  3. It looks like you're off to a great start. Very powerful intro, using direct quotes and really setting the mood. From your thesis, it looks like you have plenty to write about and already know which direction you're heading in. I think Neville is a good choice. To be honest, he annoyed me as a character for the first few books/movies. Not until he really gained some confidence and used that to is advantage did I think he played a decent role in the story.

    1. Thank you for the input. Just as a heads up, direct quotes are not what they look like. For the beginning sentences of my introduction, I imagined myself as the character and incorporated those thoughts to what he might say if he was writing this (creativity). I appreciate the feedback. I agree, Neville is a good choice. Keenan, how did Neville annoy you? I think it is interesting you think that way.

  5. Neville Longbottom is the hidden character that blossoms to become that great friend who saves the day. He finds confidence from deep within and stands up to the darkness even though it appears to be an unattainable victory. I like the hook you have to start your introduction. Neville Longbottom is a great character to use and your introduction is a good start to your paper!
